It depends on what's actually wrong, and we won't guess over the phone. A running toilet and a backed-up main line are very different jobs. We give you the price up front once we've seen it, so there are no surprises after the work is done.

Often it can be repaired — a thermocouple, thermostat, heating element, or gas valve is a much smaller job than a replacement. But if the tank itself is leaking, or the unit is well past its expected life and rusting through, replacing it is the honest answer. We'll tell you which one you're looking at rather than selling you a new heater by default.

A single slow sink is normally a local clog, and a good cable through it clears things up. The tell that it's something bigger is multiple fixtures backing up at the same time — a toilet that gurgles when the washer drains, or water coming up in a shower when you flush. That points to the main line, and it needs proper cleaning rather than another stopgap.
